Service Charges in Ireland Tax Refund

The Service Charges Tax Credit refers to payments that you make to your local council (or somebody operating these services on their behalf) towards bin collection, sewage disposal or for water charges.
Most people will be able to claim this Tax Credit against the cost of their bin/refuse collection service.
The Service Charges Tax Credit allows for the cost of the service, up to a maximum of €400 in 2007, allowing a tax refund of 20% of that cost.
So, if you pay €400 or more, this reduces your tax bill by €400 x 20% = €80 tax refund in the current year.
